Digital imaging is the process of creating, combining, and sharing digital media including photos, videos, graphics, and audio sources. Underwater digital imaging adds another layer of complexity due to the unique challenges of shooting photos and video underwater.
To successfully collect and share your images, a photographer or videographer must combine hardware like cameras, video recorders, computers, and display devices with software like photo and video editing packages, graphics editing packages, and compression tools to deliver a final product appropriate for a given audience and media.
In addition to the technical aspects of digital imaging, an underwater photographer or videographer must also have good dive skills, familiarity with marine life behavior, and an understanding of the physics of light both above and below the surface. Success requires being able to combine knowledge from all of these areas to turn a creative vision into a digital presentation.
